Meet Christine and Michaela

Christine Smith
I grew up in Jacksonville, FL and met Michaela while attending Virginia Military Institute. Though raised Baptist, I became Catholic before marrying my Husband. Faith has always been important to me and I am grateful for the love of Scripture and grace that was imparted to me as a child, and for the Sacraments and Traditions I’ve come to embrace now. I work full-time in the IT industry, and serve part-time in the National Guard. My husband, two children and I live in Michigan. I hope this podcast gives people a chance to see two friends test out what they’ve been brought up to believe against real life.
Michaela Speas
I grew up in the small town of Powhatan, Virginia with one younger sister and two loving parents. After graduating high school, I attended college at The Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia where I earned my degree in Civil Engineering. There, I met Christine, and we were roommates for 3 of our 4 years in college. I now live in Roanoke, Virginia with my husband who is the Worship Pastor at our church. We were married in 2017 in his hometown in North Carolina, and together we have one son, Samuel, who was born in 2021. I work full-time as a Bridge Inspection Engineer and am also the head of Women’s Ministry at our church. I love good conversations with friends about life, faith, motherhood, marriage, and careers. My hope for this podcast is for it to be a safe place where women, who are figuring life out one day at a time, can know that we are right there with you!

About Navigating The Now
Life is complex and full of choices. We were both raised in Church, given a certain worldview, and taught to approach life with Christian convictions and principles. However, we found that life doesn’t fit neatly in a box, and living well is a lot harder than we thought. So, in our podcast, we share conversations on various challenges we face as Christian women, mothers, and wives, who also work full-time and have other extra-curricular commitments. We are glad you are here, and hope you find comfort in knowing we are two friends who don’t have all the answers, but aren’t afraid to brave the waters and work through it. This is Navigating The Now.
